I love the flower girl

Flowers in her hair

Actually, it's not a flower, I'm not sure what it is but they fall out of the birch trees this time of the year.   They cover the deck or ground.  Wind up as decoration for this one.

Keep this to yourself but

Things are a bit Squirrely in Congress it Seems

Man the blame is for those in charge, I don't know the answers but those in charge say they do.  And look where it has gotten us now.

Decreasing Daylight Hours

Days are growing shorter

This old squirrel was complaining to me today about the increasing hours of darkness.  He said, he didn't want to hang around the feeder when the crowd of flyers shows up.  I asked him, why he felt that way, and he said  "you know they are a rowdy bunch always jumping up and flying off the handle so to speak"

Birds of Alaska

Boreal Chickadee

Sometimes, I watch out my window at the squirrels and birds and feel as if I'm a lucky guy.  I've been thinking of leaving Alaska.  Not that I don't love this place but that the cost of living here is just getting higher and higher.
Nonetheless, I won't leave because of one thing.  Fear, fear of being homeless if I should sell this place and leave.  I know I'll never get enough to purchase a new place completely if I ever should leave this one.
So, I'am here until the Creator calls me I guess or my ship sails up the Badger Slough.  I kind of doubt as that will ever happen.

Political Commercials

TV Commercials

This old squirrel has always been interested in the making of political commercials on TV.  I swear they remind him of the old fashioned snake oil salesmen of yesteryear he told me this morning.   Buyer beware.

Bail Out

Bail out my squirrels

If we bail out these rich folks who run these companies.  This old squirrel needs some of that, don't they know there hasn't been any cone production from the spruce trees.

Awww cool clear water

Cool Clear Water

It dropped way below freezing last night to 21 degrees and all the water was hard.  They sure appreciate me putting it out fresh water for them this time of the year.

Winding Through The Milky Way

Joy Harjo's New Album

This old squirrel called Native America Calling one day as a fellow Muscogee Creek citizen was being interviewed.  In return for being on the air and able to say Hensci, Estonko and telling her how big a fan this old squirrel is.  She sent me a CD of her latest...   Thanks Joy, from all us squirrels here on the Permafrost Ranch.  I love the Rabbit story.

Midnight Raider

Red Squirrel in the Dark

Caught this little guy on the feeder long after dark.  Our days are growing shorter by the minute, the leaves have mostly fallen and there is a hint of snow in the air.  The hawk returns.

Keeping them in my prayers

Keeping them in Mind

This old Squirrel wants everyone to remember:   The deployed men and women of the Aviation Task Force 49 and the 1st Striker Brigade Combat Team 25th Infantry from Alaska stationed in Iraq.   Please, keep them in your prayers.

Local Eatery

Dinner Out Last Night

The daughter and family took this old squirrel out for a birthday gift last night.  A renown place located out in Fox Alaska, a well known establishment.  The food was fair.  The Prime Rib wasn't the best I've seen.  The place was packed to say the least.  Upon thinking about eating places, this old squirrel misses Club 11.  Nonetheless, thanks to the oldest daughter and son in law, along with the kids.  It was a good evening out.

Turning 60

60 years ago today

Me and my Papa back in the  year of my birth.  Sept 9 1948, lots of water under that bridge since then.

1920 Kenai Alaska

Moose Season

My Great Uncle Tom as a young man came to hunt moose on the Kenai in 1920s.  Hunting is a family tradition.  As the story goes, he quit hunting after this trip because of the death of a female bear they thought was unaccompanied by any cubs only to find it wasn't.

Cold Wet Summer

Summer has been one of the wettest and coldest

Sunday Morning coffee and conversation with Budda Belly.  As he was saying, it's been one of the coldest and wettest summers he could remember.  At the time, this old squirrel was cruising the Informational Super Highway.  So, I showed him the article in the Anchorage Daily News  The by-line read:  "Summer is officially over in Alaska, and if you got out in the sun to enjoy both days of it you were lucky."

Sarah Palin Acceptance Speech

I think it was great

I think she did just fine, said this old squirrel.  Heck I'll vote for her.

Voles

I'm all Ears

This old vole was telling the squirrel this afternoon, that he was all ears and couldn't wait to hear Sarah Palins acceptance speech.  The old squirrel said even his aunti had called all the way from the Great State of Texas to ask about his thoughts on her.

It's because of the Blogs

The National News said it's because of Blogs

As I was sitting here because of insomnia at three in the morning.  Listening to the news when I heard a national news person say.  The reason why all this information is coming out is because of blogs.  I always knew the politicians in Washington were listening to us Squirrels.  Didn't you.

2007 Powwow Eagle Release

This was from the 2007 Powwow and was brought up to the Powwow by the Bird Treatment & Learning Center  I don't remember the author of the photo.

Politics in the Oil Patch of Alaska

Politics is more fun than a bag of nuts

Wow, what  a media feeding frenzy we are seeing on our illustrious first lady of the state of Alaska.  It always amazes me, this kind of feeding frenzy.  That's what it reminds me of, said this old squirrel.

Monday Morning Squirrel

Monday Morning Coffee

This old squirrel is having a hard time getting his motor running on this labour day holiday.  So, I'm sitting here having another cup of coffee, stop by the Permafrost Ranch Web Site today and view the cams.  They are up and running.  And in memorial on this labour day to the man I stole the Permafrost Ranch moniker from:   The late Jerry Fears
