Unusual Day Time Visitor

Daytime Flying Squirrel

We  had a very unusual Visitor on the feeder yesterday morning.  After Daylight.  It's the first time I've had a flyer visit the feeder after the sun has risen this time of the year.   It may have been the big old owl that was hooting all morning that kept the flyers from the feeder.

Birds of Alaska

Common Redpoll

These little birds were strangely missing most of the winter from the feeder.  Just as we had are first major cold spell of this winter.  They returned to the feeders.  I'm glad they have returned, it keeps the viewers of the live stream listening and watching.

Birds of Alaska

Black Capped Chickadee

These little birds have uncommon memories from what I understand.  They stash food so they can find it when times are hard and they remember where they put all this.

Birds of Winter

Common Redpoll

He's watching me watching him and it makes him nervous.  Dressed in the finest red hues, I would think that would make him more nervous in the woods.  Needless to say, it's what we boys do to impress the girls.  Remember, we are now streaming live 24 hours a day, stop in and see the cams

Hard Time in Alaska Villages

Is This Really America

Times are hard, and in places right here in Alaska they are even harder.  I want to give thanks because I've enough to eat.  I've heat, lights, water and enough to share with the small critters and birds who visit my feeders.  I've a good many people to thank for these small blessings.  You know who you are.

Nonetheless, I want to bring some things to those who read my blogs attention:  Please read this blog:  Alaska Real

Only you can make a difference

Evidence

Caught in the ACT

The Little Girl, caught in the ACT, of trying to steal Bubba's peanut butter chunks from his feeder when he wasn't looking.   Isn't love grand.

Heat Wave

Heat WAVE -26 F

I awoke this morning to a warm wonder -26 Degrees F.  Now, some folks would think I've lost my mind, thinking it's a heat wave at -26 degrees, but old bubba agrees with me.  It's a heck of a lot better than waking up to a -46 degrees like we have been seeing.

Black Capped Chickadee

The little Frosted Black Capped Chickadee

The little one has pried a piece off that frozen chunk of Peanut butter and molasses.

Tough Winter

Long Hard Cold Spell

It's been a long hard cold spell, and Bubba was asking me to make sure the chimney was cleaned and to make sure all the smoke & Co2 detectors have fresh batteries.  We were reading the News Miners web page this morning about all the fires.  Scary stuff when it's this cold

Long Extreme Cold Spell

Long Extreme Cold Spell (colder than siberia)

I awoke this morning it was -47.8 and the back Monitor stove is out of fuel oil.  Which means a trip into town to fill up the four five gallon jugs that I use to fill the little thirty gallon drum.  If I can even get the old car to start.  Maybe next year I'll try to install a 100 to 300 gallon above ground tank so I can call the fuel oil company to fill it.  Called the son-in-laws, to see if anyone was headed into town  and one isn't even letting the grandkids go to school today.  Don't blame them, it's so damn cold it's scary to be out on the highway with the heavy ice fog.  My oldest daughter said she's has to drive into work, and the traffic is still moving along at 60 miles an hour and people have almost zero visibility at times.  Idiots, she said, the whole place is filled with idiots when it comes to driving in this fog.  They gather up so they can see the taillights in front of the them and they they all prey no one stops as they go like hell.

Life at -40 below or colder... think about it.
